Rahul Dravid

With 1145 runs in 12 tests, Rahul Dravid ended up as the highest run-getter in test cricket for 2011. He was the only bright spot during India’s test series in England, where he scored 3 centuries when others failed miserably. But that’s not all; he was also the highest scorer for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL this year with 343 runs in 12 games. Although he did hang his boots in the ODI and T20 formats in August this year, one has to say, ‘The wall’ certainly stood tall in 2011.

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli was the star of 2011. The Delhi lad made the most of his opportunities this year and ended 2011 as the highest run scorer in ODI cricket. A total of 1381 runs in 34 games with 4 tons and an average just a shade below 47, he cemented his place as a regular number 3 in the Indian team. His exploits in the IPL and the Champions League this year is also worth a mention, where he regularly contributed regularly to the cause of his franchisee, Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Sachin Tendulkar

The little master performed reasonably well in both ODI and test cricket this year, averaging 47 in both the formats. But such are the high standard he sets, that one cannot call 2011 as a great year for Sachin Tendulkar. Although he did make 3 centuries this year, two of which came during the World Cup, while the third one was in a test match against South Africa earlier in 2011. He also did manage to score his maiden ton in T20 cricket, which came against Kochi Tuskers Kerela in the IPL in April this year.

Yuvraj Singh

A lot of credit for India’s World up win this year goes to Yuvraj Singh. This Chandigarh southpaw was instrumental in helping India win their first World Cup title in 28 years. His brilliant all round performance also earned him the Man of the Tournament Award. A total of 453 runs, with an average of 50 to go along with 20 wickets in 14 ODI’s , 2011 would have been a perfect year for Yuvraj had it not been marred with injuries in the later part of the year.

Virender Sehwag

A year which was turning out be a quite one ended with a rollicking high for Virender Sehwag, as he bludgeoned his way to a second ever double hundred in ODI cricket. His 219 in 149 deliveries against West Indies at Indore became the highest individual score in ODI cricket, surpassing Tendulkar’s 200* against South Africa in Gwalior. Sehwag was also responsible for propelling India to a brilliant start in the World Cup, where he smashed a magnificient 175 against Bangladesh in the opening encounter of the World Cup.

Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin was the find of 2011. Although his exploits for the Chennai Super Kings were known to many, he broke into limelight with some fine display of spin bowling in a home test series against West Indies. He took nine wickets in his maiden appearance, the second-highest by an Indian debutant after Narendra Hirwani’s 16, and won the Man-of-the-Match award. By the time the series ended, he had 22 wickets, a Test century, and the tag of leading spinner for India.
