Two of the three main factions, including the Federation, have their own suite of rewards for moving up in their ranks. Rewards come in the form of unlockable ships, access to engineers, and permits to permit-locked systems like Facece and Sol, easily one of the most beautiful systems to visit in Elite. For players who choose the Federation as their faction, here’s how to quickly move up in ranks and gain access to these rewards.

Fastest Way to Grind Federation Rank
The fastest way to grind Federation rank in Elite Dangerous is to take courier missions between the Ochosi and Chakpa systems. Bring a medium or small ship with at least a 14ly Jump Range. A Docking Computer and Supercruise Assist are advisable too.
Getting from “Recruit” to “Admiral” is a long, repetitive grind. Automatic docking and supercruise assist help make this as automatic as possible. This grind, and others like it, are why Elite is known for being one of the longest PC games to beat.
The Step-By-Step Process
Land at Perry’s Folly in the Ochosi system. Go to the Mission Board and select Transportation missions. Take all the missions from Federal factions that go to the Chakpa system. Head to the Chakpa system and turn in the missions at Williams Dock and Chargraff Installation. Take Transportation missions that go back to the Ochosi system at each station. Head back to Perry’s Folly and turn in the missions. Rinse and repeat several times.

Tips
The following tips are helpful to keep in mind along the way while farming Federation rank:
Always take the Reputation reward when completing missions for maximum gain. When progress towards the next rank reaches 100%, the commander must complete a “Federal Navy” mission to advance to the next rank. Advancement missions are randomized, so it’s best to wait until a Transportation mission comes up to advance. Any progress made after the commander has reached 100% rolls over to the next rank, even if it doesn’t show in the progress tracker. It’s possible to reach 100% in multiple ranks before actually advancing. Completing Donation missions (under Support missions) along the way will greatly increase the rate of advancement at the cost of many millions of credits. It might be helpful to spend time making a lot of credits first.
This method is repetitive, but it’s the most efficient, reliable method for raising reputation with the Federation. Around ten hours of this can get a commander to the rank of “Rear Admiral” which is all that’s required to unlock the final unlockable from the Federation: the Federal Corvette. Follow the instructions above exactly and the best PvE combat ship will be within reach.
